CELLINA DRY GRASSLANDS SCI - ACTIONS EXPECTED BY LIFE PROJECT

Inside the Magredi del Cellina SCI, the Life Project  involves the restoring of Community interest habitats identified by the "Habitats Directive" with the code 62A0 corresponding in this case to dry grasslands.

The restoration of dry grasslands habitats will occur from areas previously cultivated and then abandoned now partially overgrown with plants and predominantly shrub weed. The recovery of the uncultivated lands becomes of particular importance as they often serve as a source of "inoculation" of alien species (ie unrelated to the original local context), often nitrophilous (lovers of nutrient-rich soils and nitrogen) and ruderal (that proliferate on land disturbed by human activity). Among these are for example: Senecio inaequidens, Solidago canadensis, Erigeron annuus, Sorghum halepense, etc.. Some of these species have proved to be very aggressive and can penetrate even in dry grasslands surrounding competing with the typical species of grasslands. Apart from the recovery of habitats, this action has the meaning of "alien" species' control compared to the environment.

The affected restoration area covers an area of about 92 hectares.
